WHAT IS SAND SCULPTURE?
Put simply, a sand sculpture is a construction made entirely of sand and water. Anything can be created, let your imagination flow. Anyone can create their own masterpiece using the correct sand, water ratio and the right techniques, nearly any shape can be created in sand. Sand sculpture is an art form which was already used by the Egyptians in 4000BC.
WHY WEYMOUTH SAND?
To create these large, beautiful sculptures, the sand grains need to have a slight angle to them. Weymouth sand is ideal.WILL THE WEATHER AFFECT THE SCULPTURES?
The block technique we have used to create our sculptures compacts the sand making them incredibly resistant to the elements. Rain will be absorbed into the sand and then evaporate. However heavy horizontal rain would damage the shape. Because the sand is so well compressed, wind and storms will not grab hold of the sculpture and they can withstand a Force 7 wind.WILL THE SCULPTURES LAST THE FULL SIX MONTH EXHIBITION PERIOD?
To preserve the shape and integrity of the sculptures, a light 5% pva solution is sprayed over the completed surface, although it is sand so occasional drops occur.2,000 TONNES

We decided to pop in for half an hour in the morning and ended up staying much longer. The sculptures were fascinating and true works of art. They consisted of 20 ft (?) high sculptures on themes e.g. Asia, Africa, dinosaurs, under sea life and cartoon animated characters. Children had access to sand areas where they could experiment with their own creations. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and recommend it.
I decided to visit here on a long weekend with my girlfriend, and I honestly didn't expect much - but we LOVED IT. We're both in our mid twenties, so it probably isn't aimed at us specifically, but after we had left we wished we had stayed longer. Really fun, truly impressive and lovely people working there too! Would be great for kids and adults alike, especially with the giant sandpit/sculpting competitions!
